Removable braces are a popular and versatile method for correcting malocclusions and even jaw misalignments in children, adolescents and adults. They differ from fixed braces primarily in that they are more flexible in everyday life, as they can be easily removed for eating and at any time. The duration of treatment with loose braces depends on the individual misalignment of the teeth, but is usually between 1-2 years during tooth change and growth.
Versatile use: Removable braces are able to correct a variety of malocclusions, including overbites/prebites, backbites/underbites, deep bites, crossbites, gaps and crooked teeth.
Comfortable: As they are removable, they usually cause less irritation to the cheeks and lips than fixed braces and are easy to clean with a toothbrush.
Suitable for different age groups: Removable braces can be used at different stages of life, especially favorably during tooth change and growth.
The costs here depend on the type of orthodontic treatment, the duration of the treatment and the materials used. For this reason, we cannot make a generalised statement about the costs. However, depending on the severity of the malocclusion, such treatment for children and adolescents is largely covered by many health insurance companies and private insurers.
Treatment with removable braces begins with a thorough examination, after which we draw up an individual treatment plan and make the braces accordingly.
With removable braces in particular, there are a large number of variants with different aims. For example, the use of an oral vestibular plate (MVP) is sometimes necessary for small children. This is a pacifier-like plate that lies in the mouth in front of the teeth and is used to discourage children from sucking pacifiers or thumbs and to prevent more serious damage. As the name suggests, expansion plates are used to correct crowded teeth and a narrow jaw. There is also a range of functional orthodontic appliances (FKO). These “bimaxillary” appliances improve the interlocking of the teeth by acting on both the upper and lower jaw and are primarily used for children and adolescents in the growth phase. A double plate is used for a mesial bite or underbite, i.e. when the lower jaw protrudes in front of the upper jaw. The opposite of this is the distal bite or overbite, in which a feed double plate is used. If such a malposition is only treated later, a Twin-Block nevertheless achieved quite good results.
In our practice, we also work with the Activator, the Bionator and the Fränkel function regulator. These “double-deckers” are appliances that consist of one part and act on the upper jaw, lower jaw and even on muscles and growth.
During treatment, braces should always be worn according to the instructions in order to achieve optimum results.
The collective term “loose braces” therefore offers numerous possibilities to help you achieve a healthy bite. Simply arrange a non-binding consultation.
