Disorders and diseases of the masticatory apparatus and craniomandibular dysfunctions (CMD) can lead to a variety of complaints. It is not uncommon for these to lead to overloading or incorrect loading of the teeth or jaw joints, for example due to teeth grinding. Part of the successful treatment is therefore often initially the use of occlusal splints.
Bite splints can play an important role in both the diagnosis and symptomatic treatment of CMD. Isarsmile, for example, uses the BRUX CHECKER ® splint, which allows conclusions to be drawn about the possible causes by abrasion of the color coating and thus makes treatment planning much easier.
We also work with Aqualizer splints, which consist of water-filled bite pads that are connected to each other via a thin capillary. This can relieve the symptoms relatively quickly. The AquaSplint, which we also work with regularly.
It is generally important that occlusal splints are primarily used for the symptomatic treatment of CMD and that research into the cause and additional therapy steps are required.
Protection against tooth and jaw damage: Bite splints prevent teeth from being worn down during night-time teeth grinding and protect against jaw problems such as pain and tension.
Improving the quality of sleep: As occlusal splints reduce teeth grinding, they also lead to a more restful night’s sleep.
Customization: Each occlusal splint is made specifically for the patient to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness.
Long-term solution: Bite splints can be used for many years and are therefore a sustainable investment in dental health.
The costs for occlusal splints are partly covered by statutory health insurance or your (supplementary) dental insurance. We will be happy to draw up a treatment and cost plan for you so that it can be approved by your health insurance or (supplementary) insurance company.
At your first appointment, we will check the status of your teeth and recognize whether you grind your teeth by any signs of abrasion. We discuss any existing complaints together and determine suitable measures, for example the use of Aqualizer or crunch splints.
Bite splints are designed to separate the upper and lower teeth and thus prevent the teeth from pressing or rubbing against each other during sleep.
The use of occlusal splints is very simple. The splint is placed in the mouth before going to bed and removed again in the morning. Regular cleaning and care is uncomplicated. After a short familiarization phase, you will feel the positive effects on your sleep quality and oral health.
Make an appointment to discuss the individual fitting of a bite splint and protect your teeth.
